If I have to use one of these two words to say this sentence, I will use “帮助＂，＂我过去帮助你＂，or you can just say＂我过去帮你＂。If you want to say “I need your help”, you can say＂我需要你的帮助＂or ＂我需要你的帮忙＂,they are both good. “帮助＂is more like a Verb, and ＂帮忙＂is more like a Noun.
